Ingredients:
  • (1 lb.) lean ground turkey
  • (1/2 cup) onion, chopped
  • (1/2 cup) green pepper, chopped
  • (6 oz. can) tomato paste
  • (6 oz. can) unsweetened pineapple juice
  • (1/4 cup) water
  • (2 tsp.) Dijon mustard
  • (1/2 tsp.) garlic powder
  • (1/2 tsp.) salt
  • (1/8 tsp.) pepper
  • (6) whole wheat hamburger buns, split and toasted

Whole-wheat buns topped with a mixture of lean ground turkey simmered in a sweet pineapple and tomato sauce.

    Instructions

  1. 1Spray a large saucepan with cooking spray and place over medium heat. Add turkey, onion and green pepper. Cook until meat is browned, stirring often. Drain.
  2. 2Add tomato paste, pineapple juice, water, mustard, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 20-30 minutes to thicken sauce.
  3. 3Top each bun with 1/3 cup mixture and serve.
