  • (1/2 cup) water
  • (1/3 cup plus 2 Tbsp.) granulated sugar
  • (2 Tbsp.) instant espresso granules
  • (4 Tbsp.) KahlĂșa coffee-flavored liqueur, divided
  • (8 oz. block) fat-free cream cheese, softened
  • (3.5 oz. carton) mascarpone cheese
  • (1/4 cup) packed brown sugar
  • (24) cakelike ladyfingers (2 [3-oz.] packages), halved
  • (1 1/2 tsp.) unsweetened cocoa
  • (1/2 oz.) bittersweet chocolate, grated



Light Tiramisu

A lightened version of the traditional Italian layered dessert.

  1. 1Place a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Add water, 2 Tbsp. sugar and espresso granules. Bring to a boil, stir 1 minute, then take off the heat and add 2 Tbsp. coffee liqueur. Set aside to cool.
  2. 2Use an electric mixer on medium to beat together cheeses until smooth. Beat in 1/3 cup sugar, brown sugar and other 2 Tbsp. coffee liqueur.
  3. 3Place 24 cookie halves into an even layer in an 8×8 in. baking dish. Top with half of espresso sauce and half of cream cheese, then another layer of cookies, rest of espresso sauce and cream cheese.
  4. 4In a small bowl, combine unsweetened cocoa and grated chocolate, sprinkle on top, cover and chill 2 hours.
