Ingredients:
  • (15 oz. can) garbanzo beans or chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • (3 Tbsp.) water
  • (1 tsp.) lemon juice
  • (1 cup) dry bread crumbs
  • (1) egg
  • (1 tsp.) Italian seasoning
  • (1/2 tsp.) garlic powder
  • (1/2 tsp.) onion powder
  • Dash of crushed red pepper flakes
  • (2 Tbsp.) canola oil
  • (6) whole wheat hamburger buns, split and toasted
  • (6 slices) reduced-fat process American cheese product
  • Dill pickle slices, fat-free mayonnaise and ketchup, optional

Garbanzo Cheeseburgers

Toasted whole-wheat hamburger buns topped with garbazno bean patties, American cheese and all the fixins.

    Instructions

  1. 1Process beans, water and lemon juice in a food processor until blended. Place in a large bowl, mix with bread crumbs, egg and seasonings. Form into 6 equal patties.
  2. 2Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil. When hot, add patties and cook 6-10 minutes, flipping once halfway through.
  3. 3Top each bun bottom with 1 patty, cheese, pickle slices, mayonnaise, ketchup* and a bun top. Serve and enjoy.
