  • (4 oz.) whole-wheat orecchiette or chiocciole
  • (1/2 bunch) broccoli rabe, ends trimmed and cut into 2-in. pieces
  • (3/4 cup) vegetarian chicken-flavored broth
  • (2 tsp.) all-purpose flour
  • (1 Tbsp.) extra-virgin olive oil
  • (4 large cloves) garlic, minced
  • (1/2 tsp.) fresh rosemary, minced (or 1/8 tsp. dried)
  • (8 oz. can) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • (2 tsp.) red-wine vinegar
  • (1/8 tsp.) salt
  • (1/4 tsp.) freshly ground pepper



Broccoli Rabe Pasta

Hearty whole-wheat pasta and peppery broccoli rabe in a thick broth sauce with chickpeas.

  1. 1Fill a large saucepan with 1 quart cold water and place over High heat. When boiling, add pasta and cook 6 minutes. Add broccoli rabe and cook another 3 minutes. Drain.
  2. 2Place another large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add garlic and rosemary. Cook 1 minute. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together broth and flour. Add to broth, whisk until simmering and thick.
  3. 3Add chickpeas, vinegar, salt, pepper and pasta. Cook another 2 minutes, stirring to combine and serve.
